  • Portion size for baby solids

    Hi Jeanette,

My 7.5 month old LOVES her solids. She has always been like this since we started and she cries when the food finishes. I’m giving her 3 meals a day now and portion size is at least 1/2 a cup, maybe a bit more if she is really screaming. I don’t want to keep feeding her as I don’t think she’ll stop (!!) but I also don’t want to stop if she’s genuinely hungry.

What is the correct portion size for a 7-8 month old baby?

She is still having BM feeds during the day and milk before solids, and finishes the day with a bottle of formula before bed now instead of BM (as of the last week we transitioned to the bottle).

    Thank you in advance ????

    Melanie

    Hey Melanie,

There is no one correct portion size for all babies. If your little one is indicating she wants more then I would recommend offering it. We don’t recommend restricting or limiting intake at all. Have a read of some of the resources in the library on responsive feeding! I think that will help explain the reasoning behind it for you!

    Thanks,

    Jeanette
