Are they a choking hazard?
Served without a topping for younger bubs- yes they may be a choking hazard. Adding a moist topping softens rice/corn thins making them a safer texture for babies.
What we like:
- Low in sugar-which you would expect from a savoury biscuit, with only 0.4g per 100g.
- Total Fat- is within the recommended guidelines at 3.4g per 100g.The Saturated Fat is also 0.5g per 100g and we want it below 3g, so this is also good.
- Low in sodium - it has 259mg per 100g and we are aiming for less than 400mg per 100g.
- Texture- these thin crackers are suitable for babies. Add a spread and they are suitable from 6 months of age.
What we like less:
- Lower in fibre than we would like- it only has 1.3g per serve and we would like to see it above 3g.
- Nutrition- like most crackers and biscuits, they aren't nutritionally dense on their own and don't make a great snack as is. However, they are an excellent vessel for toppings!
The Take Home:
We are big fans of these corn thins! No added sugar and lower than many crackers/biscuits when it comes to sodium these are a GREAT options. They are also much more affordable than products marketed specifically for kids! Load them up with toppings (this reduces choking risk too) and serve them alongside other things to make a balanced snack or meal. Big tick from us.
